How to Set Up Folded Card Files
How to Set Up Folded Card Files
Folded cards require special attention because the finished product includes multiple panels.
Designers need to account for the front, back, inside-left, and inside-right panels, as applicable.
The file must be arranged so that the artwork appears in the correct orientation after printing and folding.
Example: 5 x 7-inch finished folded card
StationeryHQ provides the following example in its general file setup guidelines:
| Measurement | Size |
|---|---|
| Finished folded card | 5 x 7 inches |
| Flat artwork width | 10 inches |
| Flat artwork height | 7 inches |
| Total bleed size | 10.25 x 7.25 inches |
The flat artwork represents the two panels side by side before folding.
Important folded-card setup considerations
Panel order: Make sure the outside and inside panels are in the correct positions.
Orientation: Confirm that the artwork is right-reading and matches the intended viewing orientation.
Fold placement: Keep important text and graphics away from the fold where required.
Bleed: Include the specified bleed around the overall artwork.
Safe margins: Keep names, logos, and important text away from trim and fold areas.
